The Galactic Civil War rages for an additional 15 years. Unfortunately, these battles & events have led to the decline of Imperial sovereignty, pushing the various Imperial Factions into the Outer & Mid Rim, scattered & powerless against the growing New Republic. In this universe, the events of the Expanded Universe such as the Thrawn Trilogy & The Black Fleet Crisis, have occurred leading up to the present.
